“For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding” Colossians 1:9

For those who say they don’t know how to pray, it seems the best place to find examples of top-notch supplications inspired by the breath of God Himself would be in the Scriptures…make that the only place, with those qualifiers mentioned. Spiritual understanding is vital in the most literate sense of the word, the difference between life and death. To know that we are passing from a groaning creation into an abode that the Holy Spirit describes in this fashion:

But as it is written: “EYE HAS NOT SEEN, NOR EAR HEARD, NOR HAVE ENTERED INTO THE HEART OF MAN THE THINGS WHICH GOD HAS PREPARED FOR THOSE WHO LOVE HIM.” 1 Corinthians 2:9

This may bring Jesus’ words to mind when He said “I go to prepare a place for you.” He follows up those words with the statement “and if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also” (John 14:2,3). Not only do these words comfort us regarding our eternal reward as Christians, but they give us the blessed hope while we wait for His return, just as the original way Isaiah said the words that Paul quotes above.

“For since the beginning of the world Men have not heard nor perceived by the ear, Nor has the eye seen any God besides You, Who acts for the one who waits for Him.” Isaiah 64:4

I’m truly encouraged half-way across the globe to hear of the strong finish Mrs. Jay Wilson attained along with her promised resurrection from the dead, which those of us locked in the mechanism called time still await.

I imagine most are like me in remembering where they were when a notable death occurred in their lives. From the age of five to the present day, I recall the location of my being upon hearing the passing of a loved one. With Lonna, the latest, I was listening to Mr. Wilson give the account of her last hours, singing and praying, with her spirit flying away in the middle of Jay’s conversation with God. What a joy I embrace in the peace in which she now rests, namely Paradise.

The examples I have in my spiritual family, Mr. Marsten Miller and now our dear sister Lonna, both show us that we ‘do not cease’ when our heartbeat stills, but are released to sing with the Father His victory song.

Keep praying. Wonderful things happen that may seem tragic on the outside, but are really the fulfillment of our overwhelming conquest in Christ.

Your brother and friend,

David James Cook
